Following WWII, the Cold War started as an arms race between capitalist US and communist Soviet Union. The US’s new foreign policy of containment was meant to contain the spread of communism, which is why they entered Vietnam. Counterculture of the 1960s strongly opposed the war. After withdrawing, in 1973 is when the US decided no president could send troops abroad for over 60 days without consent of Congress.

In short, america wanted to stop communism spreading through south asia

IT might be stated that in connection to this was, society was divided. While President Kennedy wanted to increase the number of American militants advisors people who oppose the war believe it was not moral or religious, it was not considered appropriate.
The US supported the war because Kennedy was afraid of Communists taking over South Vietnam.
It was President Nixon who withdrew the American troops from the place in 1969 This lead to the invasion of Cambodia.
Many students were killed in the US because of the protests they held against war

The Americans got involved in the Vietnam War because they did not want another Communist party to hold Vietnam as its captive. Vietnam along with other South East Asian countries have undergone communist rule from China and France, Americans did not want to see that happening again, that's why they aided or supported the Vietnamese from the war that they were waging against communist countries.

The United States got involved in the Vietnam War due to their policy of containment. During this era, America was trying to stop the spread of communism across the entire world. The Vietnam War posed a threat where communism could spread to the democratic country of South Vietnam. The US decided that this threat of communism spreading was a threat to democracy and freedom, so they got involved.

The fighting experience for American troops was horrific. A hot and humid climate posed several problems for the American military. Along with this, the fact that the Vietcong (North Vietnamese army) did not wear uniforms to distinguish themselves from other Vietnamese citizens made it extremely difficult for the US military to determine who was an innocent civilian and who was a part of the Vietcong.

Ultimately, the US's efforts failed and Vietnam. The policy of Vietnamization, implemented by Richard Nixon, allowed for the gradual withdrawal of US troops until there were none left. This withdrawal was caused by several different factors, including mass protests by citizens across the country who felt the US should not be involved in the affairs of Vietnam.

The US got involved in Vietnam War because of their foreign policy of containment. This idea was focused on stopping the spread of communism on a global scale. In Vietnam, North Vietnam (a communist country) was threatening to over take South Vietnam (a democratic country). So the United States sent their military into help.

The fighting in Vietnam was not ideal for the American military. This is because the Viet Cong (North Vietnamese military) was not the standard military. They did not dress in uniform and used guerilla warfare tactics to keep the American military off balance. After almost a decade of involvement , the US implemented a policy of Vietnamization. This resulted in the gradual withdrawal of US troops under the Presidency of Richard Nixon.

Vietnam War summary: Summary of the Vietnam War: The Vietnam War is the commonly used name for the Second Indochina War, 1954–1973. Usually, it refers to the period when the United States and other members of the SEATO (Southeast Asia Treaty Organization) joined the forces of the Republic of South Vietnam in contesting communist forces comprised of South Vietnamese guerrillas and regular-force units, generally known as Viet Cong (VC), and the North Vietnamese Army (NVA). The U.S. had the largest foreign military presence and basically directed the war from 1965 to 1968. For this reason, in Vietnam today it is known as the American War. It was a direct result of the First Indochina War (1946–1954) between France, which claimed Vietnam as a colony, and the communist forces then known as Viet Minh. In 1973 a “third” Vietnam war began—a continuation, actually—between North and South Vietnam but without significant U.S. involvement. It ended with communist victory in April 1975.
